I have heard many people say "I would never visit Disney World in the summer". Yes, Florida summers are hot. I mean walking on the surface of the sun hot. With temperatures often soaring into the high 90s and humidity levels that can make the air feel thick. This weather can last from May to October.
This is often the only time people can visit Disney World due to school and work. Yes, it will be hot and yes, it will probably rain everyday (usually only for a short time) but remember, millions of us live in Florida year round. With a little preparation you can still have a magical time, even in the hottest weather
Here are the top 10 tips and tricks to help you stay cool and make the most of your Disney World adventure during the summer:
Hydration is Key : The Florida sun can be unforgiving, so staying hydrated is crucial. Water is free in Disney! Simply ask for water at any quick service location. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it to keep yourself cool and refreshed.
Dress Smart : Wear lightweight, light-colored, and moisture-wicking clothing to keep cool. Don't forget a wide-brimmed hat or a cap, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes. I recommend these tops from Amazon- they have built-bras, are comfortable, and come in various colors.
Take Breaks in the Shade : Seek out shaded or indoor areas to escape the sun and cool off. Plan your day strategically to include breaks in air-conditioned buildings or relaxing spots. When eating lunch, look for a place with indoor seating.
Cooling Towels and Fans : Pack cooling towels or handheld fans to stay cool on the go. These portable gadgets can provide instant relief from the heat and make waiting in line more bearable. While many shops in and around the parks sell them, bringing your own can save you time and money. I bought my kids these cute Mickey Ear fans from amazon. They have a rechargeable battery that lasts a long time and are lightweight.
Early Morning and Evening Visits : Take advantage of the cooler morning and evening hours. Arrive early to enjoy popular attractions with shorter wait times, and come late to enjoy nighttime entertainment when the temperatures have dropped.
Water Rides and Splash Zones : Embrace the water rides and splash zones scattered throughout the parks. Not only are they fun and refreshing, but they also offer a much-needed cooldown during the hottest hours of the day. Our newest favorite is Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana. This attraction, based on my kids' favorite movie, has many interactive water features that help them cool off.
Indulge in Frozen Treats : Treat yourself to delicious frozen snacks like Mickey ice cream bars, dole whip, or specialty ice creams available across the parks. It's a tasty way to stay cool while exploring Disney World.
Use Sun Protection : The Florida sun is no joke! Don't forget to apply sunscreen regularly to protect your skin. Choose a high SPF sunscreen and reapply it throughout the day, especially after water activities.
Plan Indoor Attractions : Explore indoor shows, exhibits, and rides to take a break from the sun and enjoy some air-conditioned entertainment. It's a great way to relax and recharge before heading back out into the heat. One of our favorites is Space Ship Earth in Epcot. It's cool, relaxing, and the narration is very soothing.
Schedule a Midday Break : Return to your hotel for a midday rest in the air conditioning or take a swim. The pools at Disney resorts are a great way to cool off and recharge before heading back to the parks in the evening.
Staying cool in Disney during the summer is all about preparation, hydration, and taking advantage of the various ways to beat the heat. With these top 10 tips, you can ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, even in the midst of summer's scorching temperatures.
So, gear up, stay cool, and get ready for an unforgettable Disney adventure this summer!
